Ada Keating was by all accounts a young mother, just 18 when she had her first son Tom. Today Tom is 80 and his mom is 98. They’ve always had an amazing bond and the two are a perfect example of how mother and son should be, caring for each other forever.
There are other siblings – Barbara, Margi and the late Janet, and a granddaughter too. By all accounts, the Keatings are a close family but it is the relationship between Ada and Tom that is extraordinary.
98 YO ADA KEATING TAKING CARE OF HER 80 YO SON TOM
Tom has always lived at home with his mom. Over the last year Tom’s health started deteriorating and in 2016 he moved into the Moss View Care Home where he could get care and assistance. It was the first time that he and his mom had not lived together.
Not to be deterred, Ada decided to move to Moss View Care Home too. Although 98 years old, Ada is pretty remarkable for her age. She could probably continue to live on her own but she’s chosen Moss View so she can help care for her son.
Ada Keating was a nurse and her care and compassion shine through, never mind her love. The two live in separate rooms but every morning, Ada goes to Tom to say ‘Good Morning’ and will always join him for breakfast. She never goes to sleep without going to say ‘Good Night’ to her son and spends as much time with him as possible.
They are both totally mindful of one another. If Ada goes to have her hair done, Tom will wait and look out for her when she’s done. He’ll always compliment her hair too! And they always watch the Emmerdale soccer games together, with great passion.
Philip Daniels is the Moss View Care Home manager and is delighted to have mother and son in his home. He loves the relationship that the two have and thinks they are a shining example for all.
It’s unusual to see such a special bond and hopefully, it is encouraging for all moms and their kids! Even when their kids are octogenarians.
