Not just you, now your property too will get a unique identification number. Yes! The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is planning to issue a digital door number for every house in Bengaluru within the next two weeks.
With this initiative, India’s IT capital Bengaluru will go one step ahead thereby keeping up the city’s digital environment.
UNIQUE DIGITAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (DIN)
A unique Digital Identification Number (DIN) will be allotted – based on the geospatial location of each house. DIN is a nine-digit number with a combination of alphabet and numerics.
Moreover, as it is GIS enabled – each number or property will have latitudinal and longitudinal coordinate points. So no two DINs will be the same.
BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said,
This will be useful for those who use app-based taxis, courier service, food delivery firms and more. Just one number and one will get the particular latitudinal and longitudinal coordinate point. More importantly, it will be useful for emergency services like fire and ambulance services.
In a huge city like Bengaluru, finding an address has always been a big headache. Now that search will be limited to your fingertips – as DINs will be embedded with GPS coordinates and works on Google Maps.
BENGALURU – CITY WITH BEST DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT GLOBALLY
This came in reference to Economic Intelligence Unit listing Bengaluru as the city with the best digital environment globally, ahead of San Francisco.
Hailing on DINs expandability, an official said,
If it is an apartment complex or a building with multiple floors, each floor or flat will be given subsection numbers. The DINs are also expandable. For instance, if a building has three floors, each floor will have a unique number. If at a later stage, another floor is constructed, an additional number can be added.
According to the sources, the BBMP has been working on the project since February under the Smart City Mission Project of the central government.
However, Bengaluru is not the first city in India to have digital door numbers. In fact, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had floated a tender for a similar project as well.
