What do sprinting and cricket have in common? They both require quick thinking, excellent hand-eye-coordination and the ability to get off the mark very very quickly. Sprinters, especially one like Usain Bolt, understand all about getting off the mark. It’s what turns them into champions.
Cricketers sometimes need a little help!
BOLT TO BOOST AUSTRALIAN ASHES OOMPH
And that is exactly what sprint king Usain Bolt is doing. Bolt is working with the Australian Ashes cricket team to teach them all about his OOMPH. He calls it ‘explosiveness’ and it’s what helped him win his eight Olympic gold medals.
There’s no doubt the Australian cricket players are hugely talented but sometimes, they can be a little slow between wickets. This goes for all cricketers; when they run they’re often missing the OOMPH.
Hence, Usain Bolt was called in by the Australians to boost their between-wicket running. The Ashes 2017/2018 series starts in a week or so and they’re working on their fitness, running, skill, style and of course, their speed – their oomph.
FASTEST MAN FOR NOTHING
It’s incredible to see how Usain Bolt is working with the Australian Ashes team. He’s a superstar, a world athletic star, and champion, and they’re in awe of his speed and skill. Even though he’s retired. Bolt was not the world’s fastest man for nothing.
Bolt is working on the cricketer’s first couple of steps which are key to speed, teaching them to be quicker off the mark. And then he’s working on the turnaround, to be low as they turn in and out from one run to another.

It’s also about posture and arms and we can’t give away all his secrets but Usain Bolt is working with the Australian Ashes guys and next week we’ll be able to see their running.
Peter Handscomb, the Australian batsman, has welcomed Bolt’s tips. The Australians have taken everything he’s said super seriously and are practicing as you read this.
On your marks. Get set. Go!
