I had no idea that so many of our famous Cartoon Characters are based on real people. I had always thought that Aladdin or Betty Boop, my two favorites, were drawn from fantasy. But of course artists have to get their inspiration from somewhere and that somewhere is from real life.
Yes! Cartoon characters are based on real people and now you’ll never be able to forget it!
These characters may well be your favorites too. None of them appeared out of thin air! Who knows, one day someone may well make a cartoon out of you!
Have a look at the pics and check out the similarities.
Betty Boop was inspired by the 1920s actress and singer Helen Kane. You know the catchphrase ‘Boop-oop-a-doop?’ It came from Kane.
Ariel from the Little Mermaid was inspired by Alyssa Milano, teen star of ‘Who’s The Boss.’ Ariel has the same big eyes, the same small frame, and a similar dynamic personality. Though Ariel was a mixture of young women – her hair was inspired by astronaut Sally Ride.
Edna Mode from The Incredibles is just like Edith Head. If you don’t know Edith Head, she was an avant-garde costume designer, never scared of doing anything or wearing anything. She was nominated for 35 academy awards and had real swag! Edna from The Incredibles is pure Edith Head!
Aladdin was inspired by Tom Cruise! That sounds insane as Aladdin is an old fairy tale but the movie character Aladdin was totally inspired by Cruise.
Look at the way Tom Cruise furrows his big eyebrows and look at his mischievous smile. These two are so similar to you not to have noticed before. We’re not sure which is sexier though.
Pocahontas was inspired by Native American actress Irene Bedard who also voiced the character in the first 1955 Pocahontas film. Disney wasn’t exactly inspired by Bedard, they copied her straight out. There was a definite respect right there!
Snow White was inspired by Marge Champion, Ursula in the Little Mermaid by the drag queen Divine and Beauty and the Beast’s Belle by Sherri Stoner. There are much more.
