Right now there are six International Space Station Astronauts 250 miles above the earth, free-floating way up there above us. What they don’t know is they’re in the most fabulous treat. The SpaceX Falcon Rocket is on its way to space and apart from its usual supplies of food, clean underwear, and loo paper, it’s carrying a very precious cargo.
Ice cream! There are thirty small cups of Ice Cream for the astronauts, in all delicious flavors. This means they each get to have five ice creams unless of course one of them doesn’t want!
ICE CREAM FOR ASTRONAUTS
To be in space is a very hard work. Sure, it is a dream for anyone to become an astronaut but once up there, it’s tough. Apart from the fact that you float through the air for months on end because of gravity, everything is tricky, from eating to dressing to breathing, and daily life does need some respite. NASA wants to make life as easy as possible, or pleasurable where possible, and this includes ice cream for astronauts.
The cargo that is on its way right now, weighs a total of 6400 pounds. The ice cream is clearly not a large part of this cargo, probably not weighing more than a couple of pounds. Apart from all the practical stuff, the rocket is carrying hardware for the Space Station, a whole lot of live mice as well as many scientific experiments.
Here is the launch of the Rocket carrying Ice Cream for Astronauts:
The astronauts are trying to grow crystals up in space in the hope of finding new treatments for Parkinson’s disease, funded by Michael J. Fox.
Astronauts do important scientific research up there in Space. So is Ice Cream for astronauts a necessity?
Probably not at all, but it is right up there with the fruit bars or small slabs of chocolate. We all love treats and especially when your treats are delivered by a rocket to space. And especially when they taste like they are supposed to and not like cardboard. Haven’t you heard this ice cream is really good?
The delivery will arrive sometime Wednesday and any delivery that the astronauts get is welcomed with delight. There will be live footage by NASA once the docking and delivery are safely complete. We hope the ice cream for astronauts is a huge success and we wish them Bon Appetite.
