When we were coming to a conclusion that Sri Lankan and Australian batting is collapsing after the ‘Stars’ retired from the game, here is one match that will make you think otherwise. In a domestic fixture of Indian Women’s U19 tournament, Kerala Women who faced Nagaland Women won the match in just one ball. Yes! JUST ONE BALL.
NAGALAND – 2 FOR 10 IN 17 OVERS
JKC College Ground in Guntur hosted the match between the two teams. Nagaland won the toss and chose to bat first and their batting show after that is a mere aloof.
The Nagaland batters scored just 2 for 10 before ending their innings in the 17th over of the match. The lonely scorer in their batting lineup was the opener – Menka. The other run came in the form of extras.
Nine other batters went back to the pavilion with a duck alongside their name on the scoreboard.
Kerala team used 5 bowlers in which Minnu Mani, the captain, shined whipping out 4 Nagaland batters in her 4 overs without leaking a single run. The next best was Sourabhya P who took 2 wickets in her 6 overs. In fact, all the six overs were a maiden over.
Unfortunately, giving 2 runs in her 3 overs with 2 maidens, Aleena Surendran easily ended up as the worst of the bowlers for Kerala in the match.
Hence, the summary of the first innings – Nagaland succumbs at 2 for 10 on board in 17 overs.
With a target of 3 from 300 balls, Kerala openers entered the field where just one strike was enough to seal the victory.
Deepika Kaintura started the second innings with a wide ball. As the pacer re-bowled her first delivery again, Ansu S Raju smacked it to the boundary and won the match for her side in just 1 ball.
Result – Kerala U 19 Women beat Nagaland U 19 Women with 299 balls to spare.
After an irk defeat, the hard days for Nagaland in the tournament still continues as they are yet to register a win after their 4 matches.
