We are very conditioned to think that women must be thin. The truth is that we all have different body shapes and genes and thin is often not possible. It’s really ridiculous that people still believe being thin is the only way to be.
We only have to look at celebrities to see how they are treated if they show one teeny ounce of weight. Luckily women are starting to take ownership of their bodies and stop the body shaming.
It is not easy though; there are a lot of haters out there, as plus size fashion blogger Anna O’Brien recently discovered.
ACADEMY SPORTS AND OUTDOORS
The good news is that Anna O’Brien has been hired to be the face of Fitness Brand Academy Sports and Outdoors, and will be modeling their new BCG Line.
Thankfully Academy Sports and Outdoors understand the size and certainly understand that fat shaming is not okay.
Anna is now modeling their activewear for plus sized women and she is only too delighted. She has spoken about how hard it’s been to find decent active wear for her size as most brands cater for small women.
Anna has been on Instagram for a long time and has tons of followers who admire her for her confidence and fitness. There are also a lot of followers who love to trash her.
Anna is large, she has a large frame and is big boned. But she is super fit and her size should not be held against her.
Somehow the internet – Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter – give people permission to be nasty. Some of the comments on Anna’s Instagram have been awful.
Academy sports and outdoors quickly shot back to those body shamers by saying,
At Academy, we truly believe every woman should have the same opportunity to enjoy sports and the outdoors. As a result, we will continue to represent a wide range of body types. We’re all different, but our access to an active lifestyle shouldn’t be.
In fact, Academy also posted in their Instagram handle,
“The key to a more active lifestyle isn’t pain, its love. Find movement you enjoy and working out won’t feel like a task- it will feel like a gift.” -@glitterandlazers #plussizefashion #plussize #bcgplus

But with Anna’s confidence and the new Fitness Brand behind her, hopefully, fat shaming is going to become a thing of the past.
It’s time we start seeing women for who they are and not for what they look like. It is true that obesity can be unhealthy but it does not mean everyone who is fat is unhealthy. And that is exactly what Anna is portraying, with the support of Academy Sports and Outdoors.
She is large but she is fit, and don’t you dare say otherwise!
