We are living in a world that is increasingly more understanding and tolerant of men and women who struggle with their sexuality. Cisgender, trans-normative and heteronormative are all words that we are becoming familiar with, as well as bisexuality and transgender.
These days we embrace these things publicly and on television too. Gaurav Arora is a reality television star who featured on the reality television programme Splitsville, Season 8. On television, he spoke about being bisexual and the struggles that he has had with his own sexuality.
Since then, Arora has undergone sex-change surgery and is now – Gauri Arora. Yes, A Woman!
Gauri Arora is inspirational, pretty beautiful and definitely comfortable in her new skin. Not only that, she made a come back to the television at the grandest stage of India’s Next Top Model, one of the most popular reality shows in India and around the world.

The fact that Gauri walking the ramp shows just how far we’ve come. She went through a difficult process which includes not just physical changes but huge emotional changes too.
A sex change operation is complicated for a variety of reasons. However, a part of India’s Next Top Model is a fantastic testament to her that showcases her strength and also the resolve to be a woman.
Gauri hopes that by appearing on India’s Next Top Model reality show she will give other people who struggle with their sexuality the courage to deal with it. And she hopes to give viewers an insight into what it means to ‘have to be in another body’, one that you were not born with.
The truth is that viewers can only learn about this by listening and watching. Gauri will hopefully be changing many people’s mindsets about what is and what is not considered normal. And it is our good sense to speak about and view Sexuality in a non-judgemental manner, no matter what it is.
Good luck to all the contestants and let’s see how will be the next Indian Top Model!
