Treacher Collins Syndrome is a rare genetic condition that affects about 1 in every 50, 000 people. It’s a horrible disease for many reasons but least of all because it cannot be hidden. Teacher Collins results in facial abnormalities and affects the face shape, ears, eyes, nose, mouth and cheekbones.
When Jono Lancaster was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome, his parents abandoned him soon after his birth. They just couldn’t deal with it and so they fled. It’s not okay leaving a baby but sometimes parents do not know how to handle situations. When they found out that their new son had Treachers, they did that – Just disappeared.
Jono was left with Social Services who found him a good home with a foster mom who later went on to adopt him. Jean, Jono’s adoptive mother was a great mom, but having facial disfigurement is not easy. Schoolmates bullied him and life was hard.
As Jono grew older, he became a motivational speaker helping others with the same syndrome. He now inspires, helps and his story may one day inspire Abigail Lynn Fisher, also born with Treacher Collins Syndrome.
Abigail is a few months old. Abigail was going to be adopted from the start. For personal reasons, her real mama could not keep her. Giving birth knowing that you have to give your baby away cannot be easy.
Luckily, Abigail’s mom changed her mind.
It was not hard for mom, Christina Fisher. Although she planned on having her baby adopted, she instinctively knew the best thing would be for her baby to stay with her. And because the supposed adoptive parents were at the hospital but fled when they realized the extent of Abigail’s disfigurement, Christina knew she had one duty.
THE ONE DUTY
One duty and that was to provide a home, love and nurturing for her child.
Unlike Jono’s parents, Christina did not flee. She did the opposite. Instead of giving her child away, she kept her. And she is very likely to look to Jono Lancaster for inspiration.
Today Jono Lancaster has a loving partner, leads a good and normal life with his facial disfigurement, has a huge following in real life and on social media and a movie about his life in the process of getting made.
Indeed, Jono Lancaster is an INSPIRATION!
